Meet the Coach

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria before his family settled in Central New York, Lubomir Kalpaktchiev is a 25-year veteran instructor and qualifying competitor in international fencing, winning the GOLD medal eight times from 1993 to 2005 in regional and international tournaments.

Having coached at SU, as well as Colgate and Hamilton, Coach 'Lubo' is beloved by parents and former students alike, celebrated widely for his smooth disposition, approach to training, and teaching youths the fine art of fencing,

How many in a class? What ages?

No more than 12-15 in a single class. Adult classes for age 13 and up. Children's classes from 7 to 12.
What do classes include?

We offer day passes, private lessons, and group rates, as well as open memberships., featuring everything from proper warm-up techniques to sword handling, en-garde positioning, footwork, parries and more! Children's classes feature games and bouts, while adults will also learn point control, bladework, targeting, and tournament rules.
How does payment work?

Pay using Venmo right here on the site, or in person using a check or cash.
Can I view classes on my phone?

We are in the process of installing a livestream setup so that interactive home training and one on one sessions will soon be possible! Stay tuned!
Do you offer any discounts?

Yes! Save up to 10% when multiple persons from the same household or group sessions of 6 or more are purchased at once!

Day passes available for $30. Private lessons also available from $30 for a 20 minute session. ($50 per half hour) Contact Coach Lubo to schedule, or consider taking advantage of a full-fledged membership below!
